Morehouse Named BNSF EVP, COO

BNSF has promoted Craig Morehouse to Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. Morehouse succeeds Matt Garland who had been with BNSF for more than two decades and moved into the top operations role at the railroad in January 2026. Garland. resigned to pursue another opportunity.

Morehouse will be responsible for the entirety of BNSF’s operating department, which includes mechanical, engineering, transportation, resource protection, environmental activities, operations support, and service design, along with safety and training.

Morehouse, a Railway Age 2025 Influential Railroader honoree, has previously served as BNSF Vice President, North Region Operations since 2020. He was responsible for operations across BNSF’s Northwest, Montana, Twin Cities, Powder River and Heartland divisions. Morehouse joined BNSF in 2006 as a management trainee and subsequently served for 11 years in a variety of leadership roles with increasing responsibility in engineering. His last engineering role was General Director of Line Maintenance in the Class I’s California Division before transitioning to General Director of Transportation for the Twin Cities Division. Prior this, he served as General Manager of BNSF’s Northwest Division. Morehouse received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from the Carlson School of Management from the University of Minnesota.
