On October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael made a direct hit on Tyndall Air Force Base on the Florida Panhandle as a Category 5 hurricane with 155 mph (250 km/h) sustained winds. The storm damaged or destroyed 484 buildings, forced the relocation of 11,000 personnel, and inflicted approximately $4.7 billion in damage.
